i had thought maybe injectors / boost solenoid , but thats more a clicking than a tapping. If you had the heads off , or car was sitting for ages it can be tappy till the oil had fully circulated again

What MY is it

could it be piston slap? gone when warmed up

heat shields tend to be more of a vibrating noise

If it's an early car it could be hydraulic valve lifter de-pressurizing.

thanks for the replys guys

i dont think its piston slap as its not loud and its there when its cold or when its warm, i was thinking the lifters maybe could be causing it doesnt seem to be causing power loss or anything just i can hear it so its annoying, i dont mind if its normal but if its not i would get it sorted out will try and get a video of it today all i can say to describe it is its like 2 small marbles tapping together

I just discover a clicking noise on the drivers side which I thought was the engine, turned out it is the boost solenoid
