The heatshield does a good job of blocking the radiating heat

As said above just keep snipping until it fits, the bottom shield usually gets binned but the top funnel type shield can be used.

It's gotta help in slowing the process of heat radiating to ancilliaries, etc., EVEN if it does heat up (which it will, obviously).

Also, the chimney part has some value in that it seals with its portion of the bonnet vent, thus air being 'rammed' down through it, keeping the turbo cooler than if it wasn't present.

Bottom line: keeping the h/shield can only help, however small. I'd personally spend the time trimming it till perfect and leaving it in situ. When Zen fitted my decat downpipe they did just this - go figure...

There - that should do it - the link is from a legacy snippit - legacycentral bbs :: View topic - Stock Heat Shield and/or SPT Turbo Heat Shield SOA8431100
I rekon that should sort it - not sure where you can get the foil from though - that seems a good idea!!!
