Evenin'all , my 1996 wrx is registered on a P plate , but on checking the vin no (GC8D48D) it is, according to the iwoc model designation , manufactured after september 1996 which means it could have had a R reg , anybody know why it's on a P ? .Also the bonnet badge is a silver 'i' on a BLACK background , i know that sti's are on a red background but this is definitely black!... anyone got info please?

 

Yours is a standard wrx Not an STI by the sounds of it. It also sounds like the importer had registered it is an older model probably to pay les tax on it. I had customes round about mine last year cos the dealer I bought mine from was doing the same. If yours is an STI it should have the red manifold above the engine. I hope you didn't pay STI rates for a normal wrx??????????

 

GC8D48D = WRX not STi as Charlie says.

Also P reg was from August 1996 to July 1997 inclusive (which basically matches the MY97 period). I know as I had a P-reg MY97 Catalunya registered in April 1997! So to get an R-reg it'd have to have been manufactured after July 97.

So it sounds like everything is in order.

I did buy it as a standard wrx , but the black badge still puzzles me.........still , thanks for the info guys

 

Only STI's have the pink badge, wrx's have the black one, mine is the same
