Exclamation SO... IS THIS THE BEST 450+ TURBO, BAR NONE ?!?!

As per title.

The spiel for this turbo seems to indicate that this is a no brainer if you want enough flow for 450+... BUT... still retain as close to OEM low spool times as possible:-

ATP Turbo GT3071R Turbo Kit Stock Location Subaru WRX STi - Modern Automotive Performance

Does anyone agree?

Anybody's experiences/comparisons will be greatly received...

US Horses are a little weaker than UK horses.

Very subjective topic as to what is the "best" turbo.

I would want to see proven results on your exact application before buying any turbo.

I'm a wierdo though ... as I'd want to map on 97 only (for convenience ). So would need the T - or similar-performing equivalent - for certain.

I thought the reason for the title "SO... IS THIS THE BEST 450+ TURBO, BAR NONE ?!?! "

hence the MD321T+ I suggested.

I'm running a MD321T on my 2002 STi. Due to the fact I am running OEM TMIC and 550cc injectors I'm letting this turbo down big time.
It goes well though in current spec

Yeah I know the 321 series seem to be no brainers that consistently produce the goods. It's just that that advert read very well and just wondered about that turbo too...

T... or... S206!

Has anyone tried both on a 2.0, with their subjective opinion of both?

I asked Martyn how the S206 compared to the MD321T, and he said that the S206 spooled up more like the MD321V.

He then got back to me, and said he compared the 2 turbos from some 2.5lt data he had, and the T spooled up about 350rpm earlier.

I would expect the difference to be greater on a 2.0lt, where there is less exhaust gas energy, and the ball bearing core would be more effective.

Simon,

Please let me know what you find.

Interesting.

To be fair to the S206 though, I understand that it can go much higher than 450 too i.e. a 'bigger' turbo than the T? Is this correct?

Joz,

I'm not in a position to rate the S206, because I only know of the one result on Martyns car, and I don't have the full details of the dyno run, just that it's not been run the same way on the road, due to running too lean.

The only way anybody is really going to have any comparisons, is when people test the turbo, and post their results, as owners results tend to be more realistic than "tuner car" results.

However, the best feed back I get is from the mappers, who base their opinions on a vast range of turbos, and comparative results.

IMHO, people are too driven by "bhp" numbers, forgetting that peak BHP is where you spend the least amount of time.

Super fast throttle response is worth far more than 20-30bhp, but this can't be seen in a dyno graph.

I had the ATP GT3076 on my old car, i wish i had gone for the MD321T+ instead, it was slow spooling and don't think it would ever make a genuine 500bhp on a UK dyno like there claiming.
Mine made 430/430 at 1.6 bar on 99/ 10% meth.

So it's looking like the ATPs aren't as 'good' as the 321s, like for like.

So now can just concentrate on T vs S206...

Yes bought it from Gruppe-S in the US.
They were unknown over here at the time and still very new in the US, for the price difference between it and an MD i thought it was worth a try, in hindsight should of gone for the MD.

Certainly early test results for the S206 give us cause for confidence.
We'll shortly be fitting another four turbos to various cars, to give us a better spread of results.
Ignoring the dyno figures, we were quite happy with consistent 11.1 quarters from a relatively simply specced fully trimmed road car.

Yes, and this price diff/bhp potential is what appeals over the 321 series.

AJ, does that price include the S206's bespoke downpipe i.e. so all ready to bolt straight in, with no other hardware required?
