Default Big end bearing change in situe??

Hi everyone,

im just in the middle of giving my engine a bit of a refresh and replacing some parts in the gearbox. Im going to replace the big ends and would like to check that this can be done with out splitting the engine?

Normally its just a case of whip the sump off undo the bog end bolts, remove conrod cap etc etc etc however the other boxer engines I have done this on have angled con rods so that the caps and bolts point down towards the sump making a bearing change a nice easy job. In all the pictures i see with the EJ20 the conrod and big end bolts run parralel to each other. Does this cause any issues when changing the big ends?

Any advice will be great.

Cheers

Paul

i don't think its impossible to do part of it, but would be pointless trying to do it as you can not get to the front bearing as its obscured by the oil gallery/crossover tube

As above, you have to split the casings to change the big end bearings
