fuel pump

hi would my standard fuel pump make a hissing/whine if it was on its way out. When i got home this evening that was the sound i could hear coming from the rear of my rb5 but it dissapears when i turn it of

Hi,
On my car the "hiss" actually became audible when i upgraded to a Sytec/Walbro fuel pump. Didnt hear anything from the standard pump.
