Default Spark plugs

Just had a remap on my 1997 uk turbo with JGM with an apexi ecu, just wondering if it is okay to change spark plugs, if it would affect the map, also there is a slight tapping noise, sometimes from the engine, knock sensor is not reading near the dangerous number, if that makes sense, and it's just a tapping noise?

Also, what number spark plugs?

Thanks, David

If you are running more boost you could try NGK PFR7's gapped to 0.65mm. You can use the 6's but the 7's run a little cooler. It will not affect the mapping in any way. As for tapping can you track it down to a certain area?

Hi, not really sure where it's coming from, I will try and find out,

the boost has been set to 1.2 bar peak.

With regards to the plugs, which ones are better? Would I need to change
leads or just plugs?

Thanks

David

You only need to change the plugs. There isn't really a better plug, the 6's are used for standard set ups and slightly modded. The 7's are used for the next stage up. However, just to confuse things, some are still using the 6's and running 300+bhp on them. Personally I use the 7's and I'm running 281bhp on a MY99.

I never doubt you Andy!

Apparently that tapping noise is the injectors, but it's probably just them letting more fuel through.

Just wondering, what injectors should I have, 330s or 380s? MY 97 uk turbo.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the 7's are set at 0.7 as I just gave mine a little tap to get them right.

I very recently fitted 7's to mine and checked the gaps - they were all pre-set to 0.7mm so you should be fine I reckon

I know but would need it mapped again. Are mine 380s standard?
