Default engine rebuild

fellaz

had my scoob 8 weeks & it all went t@ts up - had the following repair done - cost £2600 :-

oil pump
piston set
con rods
crank shaft
bearing set
full gasket set

thankfully i had a big scrap with garage i bought car from an threatned them with legals / press etc & they stumped up for full cost of repairs

just a bit worried - thought that these babies were bulletproof - only got 57000 on clock - full subi service history - is this usual for engine to blow like this ? its a 51 plate wrx - looks the biz

yor comments appreciated

cheers

all depends on how it has been driven.

you never really know when buying a second hand car, but even with a new car people have engine problems.

at least it is all sorted now.

my classic went at 70k miles

far from bulletproof mate especialy if not treated or serviced right cranks seems to be like chocolate and it is expensive to fix but its all part of owning a scooby!

Imo the pros far outweigh the cons with owning these cars

Fsh doesnt mean that much as with anything mechanical anything can happen at any given time it just seems that the subaru cranks are prone to spinning bearings All you can do really is give regular attention and monitoring to the car and not run it on a shoe string budget warm it up and cool down propperly and just generally look after it.

Milage dont seem to matter with these cars! use the best fuels available and same with engine oils etc and install some gauges

Timma,
I have Defi Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, and Boost. Although I have an Apexi Boost Controller so don't really need the Boost one. Think I'd rather a different one, as it doesn't seem that accurate on boost either.

I also have a Phormula KS-3 Knock Analyzer to detect any problems.

try and stick to one brand of fuel if posible the 2 best are tesco 99 ron or optimax

as for oil Contact guy @ opie oils he can recomend you an oil beased on your car and supporting mods they even do members didscount so register lol
most peeps use ester based 10w40

dont worry mate we have all been in the same boat Im fairy new to scoobies myself I'm starting to learn a bit now thanks to a lot of great people on here

if you can afford the delfi gauges they are king thats a good choice but not to worry any gauges of decent quality will do but you may require a fitting kit which you can get from scoobyworld for around £25 you can place them in the centere cubby hole in the later classic impreza or on the a pillar choice is yours and there are how 2's on here to show you how 2 do it lol

gauges you should get are oil pressure, oil temp boost gauge and/or air fuel ratio for overkill!
