Default Car hesitating at 1 bar.

My 1997 STI import is driving fine but once it hits 1 bar it is hesitating as if the boost is cutting out. The car is pretty much standard except for an induction kit. Anyone have any ideas as to what the cause could be?

It could be the induction kit or it could be the boost solenoid (do you sort of hit a brick wall then on/off power?)

Hi Tony. Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah it just sort of jolts back and forth until you release the throttle a bit.

Fuel cut/overboost but its a little low at 1 bar, could be the boost solenoid is clogged and is causing it to do the same or you have a slight split in one of the pipes, but go with the boost solenoid first, brake cleaner normally sorts this out should be something in the tech section at the top of the page how to find and clean it (if i get time i will see if i can find it but a little busy )

Ah found it pretty quickly

Didn't work Would it be worth trying to replace the solenoid?

Is it still clicking? (did you clean the pipes out also?)
Normally dont go wrong tbh.
You could try an ECU reset?

Bad advice, fix the problem don't mask it

Follow TonyBurns advice, checking all pipework to and from the boost solenoid for blockages or splits/cracks

Is the car new to you, has it always been this way or has it just started, have you just fitted the IK????

Tony yeah it's still clicking. Didn't clean pipes out, will do that tomorrow. Will try the ECU reset to see if it works, no fault codes are being thrown up though.

Only just got the car, IK was already fitted to it. The guy I got it off said he'll get someone to look at it on Saturday. I was just trying to see if I could fix it myself as the guy he is getting to fix it isn't actually a mechanic, although he is supposed to be very good with scoobs.

Boost solenoids do go worng, even if they are clicking it doesn't mean they are working.
With the car in test mode see if you can blow through it, as it clicks on and off it should stop you blowing.
Mine was goosed in the end so put a 3 port on and had it mapped to suit

Tony.......

Got solenoid cleaned out properly and the car isn't hesitating at 1 bar anymore. Problem now is that it's hesitating now between 2000-3000rpm at low speeds. Apparently it's had new sparks in so it shouldn't be those.

JGM's prob right - old, knackered HT lead/s or coilpack (black square thing on manifold)?

Guess what? The hesitation has magically disappeared. I was driving for a couple of hours today and it only hesitated, very slightly, twice. So I don't know if it was dirty fuel (although it was bp ultimate) or what. But anyway, problem solved hopefully (famous last words).
Thanks for all your help guys.

hi Lisa, glad you got that sorted (fingers crossed) - I have a 97 import STI as well, and found that it really didn't like BP Ultimate very much, runs a lot better on Shell V-Power - might be worth giving that a try
Cheers,
Pete
