WHAT TURBO IS THIS ?
The turbo came fitted to MY96 WRX RA.
All I know its a IHI Turbo, the only marking on it says RHF5.
The is no serial number stamped or anything on the turbo casing.
The gold actuator has the letter C printed on it.

Old legacys had a snorkel VF series, VF10 or VF12 - not sure, IIRC smaller than a TD04 anyway

Not sure on the VF 10/12.
My mate who has the car thinks it was either a VF 22 or 23. The car has been mapped with 440's from Andy F and he recons the car is pushing around 330bhp.
With the decat fitted the turbo starts to kick in just after 3100rpms and holds its boost right upto 1.3 bar.
Then tails off to 1.1 bar at 6500 rpms.
This turbo has me stumped.

well with the Legacy turbo (VF12) the car wouldn't be running over 300bhp as i removed mine from my 93wrx as it was running out of puff (i still thought it was fast as ****
) changed it for a td05 that was meant to be on there and it was a whole new world of boost 
.
Try having a look at what is behind the elbow as that is the ID plate definately the model possibly what spec as well.

Have another look down past the compressor cover, there might be some markings on the flange

this turbo is the same as the one i took off my other halfs 95 sti, even the welded on apexi elbow, mine never had any numbers apart from the big IHI TURBO, in knew it was a good little turbo so i put it on mine and gave hers my tdo5, there isnt that much in the two to be honest, sorry i cant help on the name of it but i wouldnt get rid if i was you.
