Question Is this a good idea????

can any one tell me if these are a sensible idea?

I keep seeing these Manual Boost Controllers for sale mostly on flee-bay! It appears to replace the boost soleniod on turbo charged cars with a screw fitting to adjust boost pressure, But surely with out the correct mods increasing boost pressure is a big no no. I have a friend who swears by his (fitted to a 200sx), coupled with the basic mods it has seemed to work ok. Even tho it seems to me the only way of doing it is properly ie a good mapper to set up the car correctly to cope with the increase, it still makes me wonder how much damage they could cause.

Any advice is welcome

Yea I would agree, a BIG no no

Have seen too many people blow their engines using one of these.

I've had one fitted for over a year now with no probs, i actually use mine to reduce boost and stop fuel cut. If used correctly they are a useful mod

MBC's don't blow engines, drivers do

Second that. Been on mine for 3 years now. Did it to stop overboost. Have mods and a remap since then, but still keep it there for saftey.

On the other hand, I had one on a Punto when I was younger. Lets just say the compression on all cylinders wasn't as it should have been after running it a tad high.

had 1 on mine for a few yrs my00, fuel cut came in at 1.21 bar so i set mine at 1.1 bar no probs at all. Had the car mapped now and i have no mbc, the car in no faster with the remap? same as with the mbc the mapper did say the turbo may be on its way out that was about a yr ago now.
As above very good mod to increase boost or to stop over boost and for £20 worth every penny.

The main thing would be to get AFR's checked after increasing the boost.

To check and monitor AFR fit a AFR meter, narrow or wideband thats up to you.

The million dollar question, what is a safe limit
That all depends on what set up you are running, if your car is 'standard' then i would leave it on the OE BCS

In that case i would go for a re-map with one of the many reputable mappers on here and get the very best from those mods
