Default Which Builder for New Engine Rebuild?.....Help Please

I have a dilema trying to decide which rebuild ortion to choose for my MY03 STI. The car is a UK model with a VF37 twin scroll conversion.

The options are:

APi Engines

Reuse my 2.0 block, crank & heads
Forged Rods
Forged Pistons
APi Modded Oil Pump
ACL bearings
ARP Block Studs
Standard Head gaskets
New Cam Belt

Alan Jeffery (Engine Tuner)

Reuse my 2.0 block with the option to use a CDB for £450
New 2.5 Crank to make a stroked 2.1 engine
Forged pistons
Forged Rods
Roger Clarke modified oil pump
Cosworth Bearings
Coworth Baffled Sump Plate
Cosworth Head gaskets
Cosworth block studs
Cosworth head studs
New Cam Belt

I may of missed a couple of minor things above but the essentials are listed.

These are both around the same price fitted within a hundred quid or so but I just dont know which way to go. I have only ever heard good things about APi & Alan Jeffery seems to have a very good reputation but not as many reviews on here.

Any opions would be welcomed.

As you say really, i dont think you will be disappointed whoever you chose. I would probably go for the stroker for various reasons. My location being 1 of them.

David gets my vote, based on a bit of experience with APi

Allan et al also have many supporters though.

I think you'd be in safe hands with both

I have not had dealings with either of those companies, so based on spec alone, I would say the 2.1 stroker would be much better value for money.

Yes both have said they will do whats nesessary to clean the heads up but apparently the STi 8 heads are usually pretty good to start with, Is that right??

Both tuners have a great reputation, I think you will get great results whoever you choose.

Just out of curiosity, has the OP considered the 2.5 option.

Better option than a 2.0 or 2.1 for the road? Although there are implications for the budget!

2.1 CDB...super quick spool up with your AVCS heads and free reving

has anyone got a 2.1 you can have a drive of before you make your mind up?

Thanks for all the responses, I had considered the 2.5 conversion but it would of impacted too much on my already streched scooby fund! These cars must have been made by women because they certainly know how to drain you of all money!!

I have just got off the phone and I'm booked in to have the 2.1 stroker @ Alan Jefferies. I have hired a 3.5T car transporter and will making the road trip down to Plymouth on Saturday morning

Let the sleepless nights begin!
