Default FSE Fuel Reg Problem?????

I own a '94 WRX ra that I only really use for track days. It runs at 1.3bar through an Apexi and is fitted with a Walbro pump and FSE fuel pressure regulator.

At a recent track day, when coming off and back onto full power quickly I'm getting a spluttering / hesitation (a bit like a misfire). But feels like it's through the fueling.
I know it's not a misfire through the plugs or coils - 1st things I checked / replaced.

Today it was ticking over, and listening carefully I could hear the fuel pressure regulator making a strange sound.
It was quietly buzzing ok, but it wasn't smooth and had a distinct on / off buzz, but not in a constant manner.

I thought this was a bit strange and was pretty sure it should buzz away smoothly with no on - off sound to it. I later checked my mates Type R, running a very similar set-up including FSE frp, and it buzzes perfectly smoothly and constant (no on - off sound).

Am I right in thinking my FSE is playing up, and causing the spluttering on track.

Sorry for going on a bit here, but I like to explain all the details.

I've been doing some searching of old threads, and the FSE doesn't get a great write up, but would like to know if I'm correct before I buy a replacement.

Dave

FSE regs are quite well known for their "issues". Relace it with an sx, aeromotive or fuel labs and you won't have anymore problems.

You get what you pay for I'm afraid with fuel regs.

Best of luck I hope you get it sorted.

As above, FSE have a bad rep on here. Ditch it before you break the engine!

I have a Sytec on my version 3 STI and it produces a weird high pitch sound (almost like a continuous chirping) after a hard drive.
Is this any cause for worry? Is Sytec also an inferior product?
Cheers,
Imran

A very stupid question, but will a FPR resolve fuel surge issues?

Fuel surge is usually caused on long right handers when you have less than 1/4 tank of fuel. This is due to the location of the fuel pump pickup in the tank.

The only sure fire way to prevent fuel surge is with Hyperflow's anti surge kit or with a Swirl Pot and an external fuel pump.

Here's mine..

I like the look of that! I presume you have connected it up to the original fuel lines?
