im probably guessing something like a TD05 - 16g or a VF34/35 seems to be the common option.
Its the same as mine so trying to get hold of a front entry as opposed to 90 degree inlet is a bitch unless u know someone that can convert it for you....
The TD04 (which i have) has a very smooth and gradual power delivery (with early spool up) where as you will lose the early spool with the bigger turbo's.
I think Andy Forrest do a hybrid TD04 which is something along the lines of the compressor housing of a TD04 but with a bigger compressor wheel....a quick google search will give you his website.

You wont get 340bhp from a VF28, most you will see is 320bhp which is why people go for a VF34/35.
If its around the 350bhp mark that your wanting to get to then your 3 cheapest options turbo wise are a TD05 16g, or a VF34 or VF35.
The VF turbos spool up very quick especially the VF34 due to it being a roller bearing turbo... BUT they are not as reliable as the TD05, and have been known to fail.
For supporting mods try these.
Full decat exhaust including downpipe.
Ported headers and uppipe
Either a STi7/8/9 top mount intercooler or a front mount IC (top mount is cheaper)
Uprated fuel pump (walbro 225)
Fuel pressure regulator so you should still be able to use standard 440 injectors
Decent induction kit
Apexi Power FC ECU or similar, you would probably get away with a TEK3 remap, but if you havent already got the licence then you might aswell get the Apexi since it would be around the same price for the ECU and a remap from JollyGreenMonster.

VF35 turbo, uprated fuel pump and an ecutek remap, you dont need to do anything else apart from that, though supporting mods that you SHOULD have already done, Brakes (upgraded, not just discs and pads) and leave some money on the side for a clutch and possably a gearbox in the near future as depending on how you drive is how long it will last you definately dont need an after market ecu for this car at this level of modification

Tony..... I cant see the point in getting an ecutek remap if he doesnt already have the licence, surely he would be better off just getting an Apexi Power FC, the cost would be the same????

looks like you are going for a similar set up to mine....Im on the lookout for a front entry TD05 16g then its time for mapping....If cost is a major issue, go for an ecutek map, if cost isnt an issue...possibly simtek as the MY99/00 suffer from MAF failure quite alot...lol
