A few servicing questions
Hi, im going up to vew a scooby at the end of the week, and if all goes well and everytinhg is to my liking i should be able to have it.
The one im looking at is: Subaru : UK STI 2003 PRO DRIVE
Im just asking a few questions in advance really so im prepared.
If i do buy the car i want to do the 50k service straight away and do a cambelt change.
1. How much is this likely to cost (ive hear around 500-600)
2. Which is the best oil to use. (Would Castrol Edge TD 5w-40 be good)
3. Also would it be beneficial to use some Denso Iridium spark plugs instead of the standard ones?
4. What is actually done on the 50k service.
Thanks

50k is cambelt and 60k is every fluid in the car..
Neither are cheap, but then neither are that straightforward either.
I'd use the fact that it doesn't have full Subaru service history as a bargaining tool, as well as the fact that it's coming upto it's first major service. In addition, I'd give the brakes a good check all around, as unless they've been done, there is a good chance it will need a new set of discs all round (not cheap).

Thanks for the advice mate.
If it does need all the brakes and pads changing, how much is that likely to cost?
And also where can I buy the breaks and pads from?

Well I wouldn't buy Brembo discs and pads.. just the price compared to non-OE stuff is quite high.
Performance Friction discs and pads are rated, as are Ferrodo pads (that I'm using with Brembo discs at the moment). You're looking at £200 to £250 for pads all round, and I don't know how much for discs off the top of my head. Usually BOB'S is doing a group buy for Performance Friction discs and pads in that section.
