engine rattle and low rev on tick over

engine rattle and low rev on tick over
hi i was hoping anyone can help when i go to start the car after a long night in the garage the car rattles like hell then after i start driving goes has the car warms up but the other day i started it and has i drove away it rattle really bad but then went and when the cars warmed up if i sit at the junction and let the car tick over it drops well below 500 revs which i think is bad any ideas.

yes if you listen to the front right where the black cover is over the pulleys, you hear it louder, put a long screwdriver on the cover engine on, dont touch pulleys with the screwdriver, put your ear to the handle of the screwdriver, if its loud and rattling, its from the pulley, did you have any belts changedm mine was overtightened, you wont be able to feel the slack, with your hands, add me on msn i guide you through it, i just putting the baby to bed ill be back,, JJ

Heat shield..?? They tend to be noisy/noisier when hot.
With regards to revs dropping to 500rpm, you do realise that the rev counter is calibrated such that, the very first line (ie where needle sits when engine is off) is zero and the next one is 500rpm..? From this line, the second line, it steps up in 100rpm graduations to 1000rpm. Therefore, it's very easy to think the revs are sitting at 500rpm when in fact they're sitting at a normal 750rpm. Just a thought as it's a very common mistake..

Heatshield ., dont know about that,
when changed the belt and keyway on pully all was sorted. mine was ticking at 500 600 also lumpy, when warm was ok, then came back when cold or on long tickover, i no proffesional, just similiar to what i had on a 2008 model
