As long as it's a stable light (not flashing) then it is telling you of a minor fault, probably a signal from a sensor which is outside of normal operating parameters. To properly identify the fault you need to have the car interrogated with an OBD device to identify what is causing the error message. Contact either a main dealer or independent specialist to have them check it out.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply!
Previous owner changed the exhausts do you think it could be to do with the sensors???
Thanks

Not fully up on this, but I believe that after fitting a decat you can get a fault from the lambda sensor. I think there is a fix which involves fitting a resistor to the sensor connectors.

I have the same problem tonight on my 54 STi ppp.
Any ideas on what it might be - as apart from ppp - its standard.
Knocking on 60k service (59k).

If car has a full decat it is probably the exhaust temp sensor or whatever sensor it is. You can bypass this with a resistor from Maplins for a few pence. It is a 12 watt or 12 ohm - sorry I forget as I did mine years ago, someone will know. The connections sit behind the airbox above the turbo as in pics. You disconnect the third connection down, bend the resistor into a U shape and plug it into either side of the female side of the plugs, then tape up both ends and check engine should go out soon after.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm pretty much certain its not a full decat.

Just a thought - as the 60k service is pending should I hang on and get the lamp issue sorted at the 60k service?

Pilgrimage has an STi, not a WRX, so there is no exhaust sensor in his up-pipe.

What is the fault code PO number?

O2 sensors have heaters circuits and it may be that one of the two units are faulty or there is a problem with the wiring.

Don't know the PO number - as had to look over grumpy mechanic's shoulder!
It seems somewhat strange that this has just come about just before the 60k service...
