Default Ecuexplorer and usb

I am currently using ecuexplorer with a lead that connects to a com port on my laptop. I now need to change the laptop for a newer one and most seem to come with usb only. I have tried a convertor on my current lead with no luck.

Can anyone recommend a usb lead that will work with a DBW 2006 2.5 Euro Impreza.

OBD Diagnostics, Inc. - OBD2 All-In-One Scan Tool w/ USB

Best I can find is something like this. The PIN outs on the OBD2 can't be directly transmitted down a USB cable, it needs something inbetween to do some interpreting and converting.

If its just for logging and the like (not flashing) then I think a VAG COM £13 ebay USB VAG-COM 409.1 OBD 2 II CABLE LEAD AUDI VW VAG COM on eBay, also, Diagnostic Tools Equipment, Garage Equipment Tools, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 01-Jun-09 22:25:10 BST) cable works. It does on my MY99

Having thought about it I don't know if newer cars changed from ISO 9141, perhaps someone else can confirm.

I've not had any problems logging with Delta Dash using a Logic3 USB (US202) to serial convertor. This has worked on my 06 car.

Have you changed the COM port input on the logging software when using the convertor?

Buy the best COM to USB converter cable you can find ... preferably shielded and with plated connectors. I bought a cheap one first and it simply didn't work.

Butty.
I have tried different com ports but it still does not seem to work. I can see the usb to serial convertor in hardware > ports. It is listed as prolific usb to serial.

TJmatt.
The serial lead I am using is a ISO-4 lead and that I origionaly used with VAG com that allows me to adjust idle, reset ecu etc so I would like to use all the features. I also have the later VAG com hex lead which does work with ecuflash but not ecuexplorer or Romraider.

Wanted to try to get away with somthing cheap if possible. Worst case I can keep the old laptop and not sell it on ebay, but I would rather only have one laptop.

I have pics of the leads I have but I am not sure how to post them here.
