CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HELP PLEASE
HI, i have a 1999 impreza sti v6 - i went to go to the shops earlier and the check engine light came on
. The revs are up and down on idle and want to cut out
if i put my foot down it wont rev past 4k when drivingand the check engine light has stayed on . is there any way i can manually read the fault or does anyone have any idea whats going wrong .I had no problems ever uptill today and really need my car on the road if anyone can help i would appreciate it no-end

It wont rev past 4k because its in limp home mode due to the cel coming on. Possible idle control valve problem, try removing the valve and cleaning it out with carb cleaner, worked on mine when my cel came on. Although mine is a V2?, so maybe different.
i done the test , and 2 long flashes followed by 3 faster flashes . Im thinking this is the maf sensor, is there any chance of damage being done ( wasnt driving the car fast or aggresiveley) just driving normally and light came on and hasnt been the same since, which maf sensor should i buy???

your car is v6 so it has a stepper motor not an ivac so forget that one!!! the symptoms you have described sounds like maf fail and you have confirmed this by error code 23 get replaced asap best not drive the car

Yes, certain the MAF has failed as per the fault code. It's relatively common on the MY99/00 cassette fragile hot-film ones... But you can double-check/confirm by testing its output voltage range - see here:-

Yes, P1 stared life as a Type R STi Version V (MY1999) and was modified by Prodrive/STi for the UK market. So yes, it has the later MY99/00 fragile cassette MAF
