Using Plastigauge
I'm not sure I'm going this right
Am I right in saying that you fit the bearings, lay a piece of Plastigauge across, put the crankshaft on top then the other half of the case.
Tighten bolts to spec then undo. measure using paper strip againsed the plastigauge width on the crankshaft??
If it is then my crankshaft must not be useable at all, the line is to thin it doesn't have the mark on the paper strip.
The crankshaft looks in great condition and apparently came out of a running engine with 20,000 miles on the clock.
Any advise would be much appreciated

Don't have the time to find the relevant part of this project thread, but sure there were some details on Plastigauge use in Silent Running's project thread here https://www.scoobynet.com/projects-4...e-rebuild.html
