Have you done a compression test to see if it's bent the valves?

now there's your problem!.

Never seen a impreza with a snapped camshaft, but other cars I've fiddled with that had broken camshafts usually suffered a cambelt failure. With the exception of a Transit 2.5DI where some muppet tried to do 7000rpm with it )

STi Version 3 + 4 heads will have :
LH-B and RH-B head codes.
Under Bucket shims.
EH + IH valve codes.
White colour coded Valve springs.
Approx. 8.50mm lift on Inlet cam.
-//- 8.60mm lift on Exhaust cam.

Version 2 heads you have there with Hydraulic lifters - have seen a couple of broken cams in the past caused by a cam cap bolt shearing and allowing the cam to flap around.
You need to check the cam journals and thrust faces on the head for any damaged caused by the broken cam.
