Default New 2001 Subaru Help!

What an introduction.......

My brother in-law has had many Subaru's over the years I have known him and has just purchased a 2001 Subaru WRX, with (allegedly) forged internals, cams, electronic boost cont, decat, remapped standard ECU etc.

Although he has a problem:

1. I have a mapped Renault (yes I know! ) Meganesport R26 which he used to pull 3-4 car lengths from 30-100+ (minutes per second) with his old classic wagon, that had a FMIC & full decat system. The new one although allegedly running 330+bhp doesn't pull at all and if I'm in front my twin scroll turbo boost eariler and I pull away!

2. If he holds at a set speed (40mph for instance) you can feel a hesitation of some kind, and if he drives out of boost (1500rpm - 2500rpm) the car has major hesitation (juddering).

When I was behind him on our last "run" on the over-run I noticed something coming from the exhaust, looked like when someone throws a cigarette from the car and it hits the ground. (sparks!) I assumed this was merely the exhaust baffles? (Not seen anything since)

We are going to take it for an RR on Tuesday, I'm based in Herts (10 mins from Stansted. Does anyone know a Subaru specialist we could take it to?

When i first went in the car it felt very quick, esp when the cams kick in at around 4.5k and pulls very well to 7k. Other than some swirls it’s a very nice looking car, I'll be hitting it with the Meg's G220 tomorrow and will post pictures of the outcome.

Thanks in advance.
Paul

There is receipts for parts but they could be for any car I guess, the remap was by an unknown. He paid way over odds in his haist, IDIOT!

Evolve in Luton said they think its probably map related, I guess the RR and check over will tell.

About Us : Perfect Touch

I've heard of them but not a commonly used subaru mapping company IMHO.

Don't recognise the car........looks like an Ochiari rear spoiler and side skirts though. I wonder if Fulhan 71 had a hand in it LOL

So after two days and guaranteed no sex for at least a few weeks......its almost complete. The pictures aren't the best due to the NS being worse than the OS taking twice at long so the sun had well and truly set by the time be finished.

If it’s clear I'll get some pics tomorrow, fingers crossed for sun :scared:

All taken on an old 7.2 mega pixel Sony camera:

Some shots of the swirls, the pictures don't show how poor the paint was. I wish I had taken some shoots prior to clay; the reflection was almost non existent. There was also strange "pitting" in the paint in places which I can only assume was caused by a poor mop and plenty of over spray.

Removed:

I won't bore you with any more swirl pic's as they are basically the same!

Some shots just before the sun set behind the clouds! (no LSP)

Finshed:

All tucked away......ready for completion tomorrow.

Swirl free shots:

I'm looking forward to seeing this in the sun, I'm not keen on Subaru's. Especially the bugeye's but this with the kit and a forged engine has impressed me. Plus it has no real flat four rumble, which is cool.

Its definitely a work in progress, the engine bay was a state from a previous engine failure covering it in oil! The APC worked wonders but IMO needs some further TLC with the FMIC pipes cleaned etc. Its booked in to have the front bumper and side skirts repainted. Also some nice carbon bits are on route.....

That engine spec would leave the WRX 5 speed gearbox in bits 200 yards down the road.......LOL

I've got a bugeye and That's a nice looking car

The gearbox seems fine at present although he's taking it easy when changing. He wants to upgrade it to a 6 speed if that possible?

What power do you recon it should run on a uk wrx with that spec?

Nice engine midlife, what pipes are they?

Anyway, the cars sorted. Was a spark plug even though its just had a service! The iridium plug decided to fuse and not spark. Now with a set of platinum plugs its an animal, blown the boost pipe off three times now. Ordered heavy duty clamps and adhesive backed sandpaper to place on the pipe where the hose connects to help.
