full strip down into two short block halfs , you will also need a new crank and shells

Crank does not always have to be replaced on these. If the crank journal is blemished then it may just need a polish (do not grind these cranks - not advised).

You will have to pull the whole engine out to do the big ends on these mate. Plenty of project threads in the projects area that will give you some idea.

Good Luck

STI crank will easily manage 450 bhp.

Or so I'm hoping...

LOL

i am a little confused here fella, you say its a 2.2 but you also state its a STI8, do not just buy a crank especially if you do not know what;s in it. For all you know it could be a 79mm from a 2.5 STI. And you could get it all wrong as if the engine has been forged for a 79mm crank then you will end up with other components that will no longer fit.

Only buy the parts you need once you have the engine apart, unless the person your buying the parts off agrees that they will exchange if wrong.

Could be a 2.2 Leggy motor ? As a 79mm crank will get you to 2.1 in a 2 litre block.

Or it could be an expensive stroker motor....

As Baly said above - needs to be stripped and measured to see what you have tbh.
Standard 2.0L 75mm throw crank with 97mm bores( 22B ) will give you 2217cc.
EJ 257 crank with 79mm throw with 97mm bores will give you 2335cc but to prevent the pistons sticking out the deck face by the extra 4mm of the stroke, you will need to have Stroker Rods and Pistons to bring everything back to where it should be.
Is there an Engine Build spec sheet with the car/documentation ?

went to pick the car up last nite , the bloke that owned it before is a **** , he first told me it had a 2.2 lump then told me it had a 2.5 it turns out it is a 2.0 sti motor , but he was told it had a 2.2 engine when he bought it and from what i can gather got ripped off , he was right about the big end although it is only a very slight noise and almost unoticable but will still need sorting , it already has a front mounted intercooler and yellow injectors and the power print out to prove it is running 380 bhp , i am a little disapointed about the engine but for the price i paid for the car i would not of even been able to buy the front mount cooler secound hand , should also be less hassle now i know it is a sti engine , thanks for all the advice guys

Default £200

i paid £200 for the car although it needs a new rear window and they aint cheap ,a bonnet , new brake disce all around and a complete interoir , but still a good deal , hoping it will cost no more than £1200 to bring back to life so £1400 for a 380bhp sti is fairly cheap , knowing my luck the engine will detonate on my first drive or will end up costing me £2500 to put right like all projects running massivly over budget lol
