is it possible that uprated pump puts too much load on the fuel relay??
but with the standard pump is less load therefoe not showing an issue and in fact the fuel relay is not the best??
colour and location of fuel relay wouldbe a amassive help

It is drivers side foot well behind and above the small fuse box. A real nightmare to reach you will have to take the bottom part of the dash off. There is a silver cylinder shape one with a green connector (i think that is the fuel pump one but not 100%) above that is a brown square one, and above that is another cylinder shape one.
Iv just had a similar problem and after changing the relay and the pump and it still not working, i found on the white plug that go's in the top of the fuel pump the live pin was burnt and knackered. So i cleaned it up and its been fine since
