Obviously will depend on milage and how it's been treated in the past...
But the UK Classic engine is the same as the same Model Year WRX engine - just that the ECU is running a detuned map for 208/215bhp (instead of the WRX's 237-276). So from that point of view, like for like, it should be a 'less abused' motor lol - so posssibly a better 'canvas' to start modding from...

i believe that that UK block will take roughly a maximum of 330-350 without going down the route of forged internals....i believe the standard box will do about the same before going pop.....

Im going for 350+, mines a low mileage un-abused car - its a big 2L block etc so not weak. The ones that go bang are the people that fit a big turbo on a stock engine and whack the boost up - without supporting mods and usually higher mileage too! IMO, thats just asking for trouble!
Also depends what box you got too, ty752 = weak, mines a ty754...this box is stronger then what people give it credit for, and iv heard people running upto 400bhp on them.

350+ is gonna be gearbox and enginer rebuild teritory. also depends what turbo you run to get it there.
im running 340bhp and the engine has been fine, but i did strip the teeth off 3rd gear lol
supporting mods help but over 350 your pushing your luck.

Mine... keep calling it mine but I sold it is the exception to the rule.
448bhp, trackday after trackday, since 2003, far too many occasions of over 2 bar boost spikes (****ty boost control) and still together, heads never been off.
Gearbox is a different matter though, it lasted 3 weeks.
Six speed now and never gone wrong.

I've heard of a few going to 400bhp (not sure if they're all daily drivers) but IMHO at that level, you're pushing it! No point in having the power there if you're frightened to use it. Most will eat the std gearbox before you get to the kind of torque levels associated with a 400bhp set up.
Better to stick to the low-mid 300s till you can get it done properly IMO. You can run a UK car at this level (assuming its in good nick and well looked after) without issue.
Of course if you have the money to upgrade to a forged engine and just want to see how far you can go before it lets go.....why not I guess. Just make sure you have good breakdown coverage!
