Hi mate go full de-cat or if you don't fancy changing it when it comes to mot get 100 cel sports cat down pipe with decat centre.
If the fuel pump has not been changed get a Walbro 255 fitted and then get it remapped!

The 97 can't be mapped, its new ecu or ESL Live time.
How much do you want to spend? You could do the Esl route, with later map sensor(to run over 1.1bar) , 440cc injectors for 300bhp, at about £800-£1000.
Or, if thats too much, one of Scott T's Polar Performance chips are a good cheap option for £125 ish. Will give around 280bhp

The Polar chip can only be used on cars up to MY96.

Little you can do to a MY97 ECU wise, apart from complete replacement..£££££££

What's a "Live Time"?

The MY97/98 ESL Live was supposed to be commercially released by now - according to various information 'drips'. Supposed to be working on a new MAFless version of it too! (this MAFless version is now already available for the MY93-96 ).

my 97 uk impreza was simular spec to yours when i bought it 6 months ago,
since then its had the follwing:
apexi power fc
walbro fuel pump
hybrid fmic kit
front entry converted TD05
440cc injectors
parallel fuel rail mod
3" turbo back exhaust
stainless up pipe

the above seems to be the most common way to go for a decent hike in power/tourqe,
mines in for mapping on friday and should hopfully be coming home in a pretty quick impreza
