Question

Hmm, that 'could' be leaking valve guide oil seals?

coud be worn turbo bearings. most turbos have hydrodynamic plain bearings that spin on a very thin layer of oil to lubricate the surfaces. as the turbo wears the gap gets bigger, leaks oil into the exhaust and burns.

I had a previous car with leaking valve seals and it smoked when started from cold... but not when hot.. as the oil in the top of the engine leaks past the seals and into the engine bores when you switch off the engine and leave it.
It doesn't really hurt as long as I remembered to check the oil level regularly.
Putting full synthetic oil in it made the problem less obvious as the oil burns with less fumes.
Could be that or the turbo as mentioned already...

How many miles has it done?

As each person has said.

The Turbo side you would see smoke most of the time.

With valve guides you will see smoke when you start the car and when the car has been idling for a while and you accelerate away.

At only 49,000 I wouldn't expect either to be a problem.

Do you warm the car up before driving on boost and let the car cool down before switching it off?

If not then it might be the turbo bearings...
but like said above it would possibily continue to smoke especially under hard acceleration..

I point at the valve seals...

Unhappy

I have it just the same way. I bought my Scooby a week ago (a MY99, 50.000km).. Yesterday I did a little testing (0-60mph etc).. I warmed up the car first, and I also cooled it down before stopping.. But when I started the car this morning it was blue smoke all over the place and it smells burned oil (from the exhaust).. This happens every time I start the engine when it's cold..

So tell me.. Have I messed up the engine after a week? Could there be some oil-leak some where? Is there any gasket I should replace?

I could REALLY use some help here!

it may be the way we warm and cool the cars coz yesterday when i started it there was no smoke so i am a bit baffed.
i might warm it for ten mins every first start and idle for two mins before switching off see if that helps.

My car has just turned 50.000km, and I'm not sure what that is in miles.. Actually I didn't notice any extra smoke today, but it still smell's burned oil when I start it. Could I have fried the piston-rings in my little "test"?

Another thing; If I gently press the gas-pedal when starting, will this generate extra smoke? I just found out yesterday the "proper" way of starting the engine ;-)
