Default ZeroSports Undertray! Have a look please, what for? + Bottom End

okay wa shelping a mate on the weekend, swap bonnets over and change wheels on his scooby as our other mate had a few scrap/spare subarus lying around ..

well while sswapping bonnets i noticed one of the bonnets had a zerosports undertray and not a standard one, my question is why? is it any better on standard scoop? or did this car have an sti-8 scoop on before it came to uk?

if the latter, thats great cause then i'd want it as i wont have to cut up my standard undertray for the new intercooler.

pics:

what do you guys think?

also on one of these so called scrap cars .. one of them looks absolutely mint! just needs front coilovers due to my mate taking it... and the bottom end had gone.. (its a version 4 sti)

anyway we have a wrx engine.. could we use this bottom end?

cheers

p.s. if the following was your car what colour would you spray it? some photoshops with diffo wheels would be good

The zerosports has a splitter. Normal classic scoops/undertrays don't.

Though there's no skirt on that undertray, so it may be worse than standard if it allows lots of air to leak around the IC core.

okay cheers, what if you mod it to have the standard skirt?

is the splitter needed?

When air is forced into a venturi it creates what's called laminer airflow i.e. it always 'wants' to 'stick' to the walls of the venturi i.e. the top of the scoop and along its curved back. The splitter has 2 or 3 vents evely spaced over the scoop's depth... the air is forced through all of them, thus more evenly feeding into the IC's top surface area. So they are defo good.... so long (as has been mentioned) all that good work is not undone because the sealing rubber skirt is missing. The air will just want to take the path of least resistance and flow around the edges of the unsealed IC - bypassing at least some of the core.

So the splitter WITH the OEM skirt, should work wonders...

I had a zero sports splitter a few years back and according to my mapper he was quite impressed once it had been fitted. Seems to do it's job by directing the incoming air into the cooler more efficiently. How much of a gain is open to question.

I had one for a short while - no firm data to back it up but i felt the car was abit better with it on.

I then sold it and used the original rubber undertray and made my own splitter. Crude but effective.

lol not for sale.. yet anyway

its my mates project.. lol and it isnt a datsun, its a celica.

he's going to do the supra conversion on it aswell as respray before he sells it

although current engine is on 200 odd thousand and running sweet..

i'll give you a shout when its for sale around august time, your only round the corner.

got a feeling he wont sell though, its been in his family and he loves it
