Default Funny Droney noise from back of the engine/turbo

Just started the car and noticed a little bit of white smoke from the exhaust which I've not seen before, thought possibly turbo on its way out (even though thats blue I think) reversed and then undone the window and started going forward and noticed a long whirring noise.

Got under the car to have a look, nothing unusual, all the oils are fine. When I rev it its making a long drawn out whhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrr & the higher you rev it the longer the noise lasts. I think its possibly from the turbo, but have never had let go before? Has been working totally fine before this though with zero smoke before.

I would upload a sound file to it, but the work camera is shocking and doesn't have sound built into it and I haven't got a cable lead for my phone either.

Any ideas anyone?

When you turn the engine off - can you hear the noise winding itself down to a stop?
If so,the turbo bearings are shot/impeller tips touching the housing.
Could also be the power steering pump whining.
Hope its not too serious.

Would the power steering pump make more noise when being revved?

Will have to give it a go tomorrow turning it off just after revving it.

Cheers

If the noise comes from a component driven by a belt (like PS pump or alternator), the whirr should rise and fall in time with the revs.

If the noise winds down slower than the revs, it's likely to be the turbo spooling down and a refurb or replace job for you
