Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Scoobypedia / Scoobypedia under the 'ECU' heading shows you how to read and reset the ecu.

There is a well documented history of cars from 99-00 suffer expensive failures due to people toying with the intake system. These cars were fitted with hotwire MAF sensors which are very delicate, and can be killed by the vibrations from induction kits and oil contamination from aftermarket mesh/gauze cones and panel filters. Before spending money on mods it is advisable to come on here for advice. You could have saved the intial purchase price at the very least, and God forbid you'd killed the engine and were looking at a four figure repair bill. The only time I/K's benefit a Scoob is when you get into big power and are running a MAF-less set-up anyway.

Either 'search' on here for how to do an ECU reset using the connector blocks under the steering column, or disconnect the battery for an hour or two to see if it clears the fault. Some faults also clear after a number of engine starts.

Have you tried reseting the ecu? Read the fault code first to see if it was the maf.
There are two black connectors under the dash, connect them, your check engine light will flash a code.

Doubtful. Some components degrade slowly, and the ECU adapts to their progressive deterioration. An ECU reset suddenly highlights a component performing way out of the expected parameters, so it may have been failing anyway. I'd visit somewhere who knows Scoobs and has a diagnostics monitor to be certain.
