Default ECU swap question

When swaping the ECU for another do you have to get the keys reprogramed, if you do, where can it be done?

Car is 2003 STI PPP got a WR1 ECU to fit.

Thanks for that JGM

So how do you do it?

drive to dealer with original ECU, swap over ECU, get them to programme?

How much would they charge roughly?

Would a locksmith that does transponder keys do it?

Is it really worth the bother for the extra 10 or so bhp??
Would not having a remap been a better option on your standard ecu??

Tony I appreciate what you are saying but, there is a credit cruch on at the moment, and i dont have the money to go paying out hundreds of pounds for a remap at the moment.

I am presuming this is a cost effective power increase????????????

Doesn't the WR1 have a 3 port boost solenoid as standard, this alone will require a remap if you don't have one.

Yes, but the 2003 STi had a 2 port solenoid.

Maybe one of the more experienced mappers can help here, but I'd hazard a guess the WR1 wastegate tables are different enough from the normal STi PPP as to make a difference in spool/boost. The values in the WR1 tables should be lower all things being equal.

Hi all,

I'm new to scooby ownership, having came over from classic fords (bought the scoob to transplant running gear into mk2 4door but decided otherwise)

I was told my car was a 94plate 2000 turbo import but someone has since told me that 2000 turbo's were not imported, only wrx's and sti's were.It doesnt bother me which i have as the car go's like f*"c but i was wondering if anyoe could shed any light?

The problem is I have bought a full 3" exhaust with 4.5" exit + bellmouth decat and an uprated fuel pump. The guy in the shop told me that next i will either need a boost controller or an ecu upgrade.

I have te opportunity to buy a z4 4 plug ecu but am unsure as i dont know which will be best and most cost effective (boost controller or ecu) . Also I dont even know which ecu is going to be best????

Please help the novice
