Turbo options??
Hey all i have been thinking of getting a vf35 turbo for my car as im looking to run around 350hp but have also been told this is quite close to the limits of the turbo, now i am building a car which i dont want to be running parts at max limit, i am fitting a v3 sti engine to my uk turbo 2000 my97 and wanting to mod it while im changing engines over, am going to be running a front mount, 550cc injectors, now looking at ported headers to and will be using the simtek ecu setup
My question is:
What turbo's will still give me a quick spool up like a vf35 but be able to cope with 350-380hp for a long time reliably??
Any help much appriciated.

VF34 second choice.
There is no assurance either will get you 350 on a 2litre. I'd say you'd be looking at more like 330-350 depending on supporting mods.
If you want to be sure of 350 you'd be looking at a TD05 18G but that would not respond as quickly as a VF35. If you want 380 it'd be a 20G, but that would be even slower to respond. For the road, A well set up VF35 would be very nice. On my classic it results in a power to weight ratio of 270ish bhp/tonne i.e. the same league as an Aston Martin Vantage. Quick enough for most and very responsive.

yeh i dont want much turbo lag as most of my diriving is around town and short sprints, so would rather have less hp and a car which in my eyes is still damn fast, either way im looking at around 100hp more than what im running and in a classic shell it will be fast.
Any other possibilitys??

I have a FP green turbo from Scoobymania along with a 3" system, FMIC, GEMS ECU and uprated fuel system that puts out a healthy 400 bhp on a two litre with stock internals.

As NS04 says, a VF35 wont see you more than 350 without a funny-fuel mix. A TD05/18g will see you at the bracket you're after. As for spool, that depends on a lot of things, but i lost only about 300 rpm over the VF35, which is hardly noticeable. Depends on supporting mods and the mapping.

My VF34 made 345 with similar torque mapped by Bob Rawle, i have a few choice mods though to support this AND tbh the turbo is near, if not on it,s limits..

Also, anything above 350 is starting to get a bit near the mark on standard internals IMHO. People have run these engines up to the 400bhp mark on std internals, but they are often people who can afford a forged build without too much financial pain if anything goes pop! No point having the power if you're frightened to use it, a 330bhp Scooby with similar torque is a very nice drive (especially if it's a light classic )

I think youve just gotta sift through the BS in this place to be honest.
Say you buy a high milage scoob and it hasnt been looked after, people just think you can **** on a 18g turbo and run it all day long, well no you cant it will go pop sometime probably sooner rather then later. Its these sorta people that wont thing to add supporting mods, before the turbo as this is the thing that will do most damage. and its these people that ramble on about choclate engines and not running high power
fact is a ty754 will take over 350bhp
and you can run on stock internals over 350bhp
perhaps, on some cars, on borrowed time, yes. but if you respect your car i think you can get away with it.

lol thanks for your honest answers mate, i am not like those discust in this thread i always build a car that is more than capable of taking the power i am wanting to achieve with all the supporting mods required, no point in slappin a big turbo on and then crying when things go pop.
So the td05 18g turbo is a good turbo to have, i dont think i will miss 300rpm difference when im getting all that power plus if im running a simtek ecu then i will get it mapped properly.
