You will need to make up some means of bolting on the starter motor else it will be only held on by 1 bolt.

I tapped the hole and made a special stud on the lathe.

JDM WRX Type RA - MY97/98

G/B code: TY752VB5BA

1st.................. 3.083
2nd................. 2.062
3rd................. 1.545
4th.................. 1.151
5th.................. 0.825

Final Drive..... 4.444:1

The above is the best combo - you'll need the gearbox and matching 4.444 rear diff. This has the shortest rear diff available and 2nd to 5th ratios are even shorter than the WRX's - so will be waaaay shorter than your UK ratios! It'll be mental!

The P1, whist having quite short internal ratios, has a pretty tall FD at only 3.333: 1 (taller even, than your existing 3.416:1 one )

or well, a little to late.

but the p1 box should be a lot better than my uk one?

my car only got 291bhp, the torque was quite low too.
this was becouse of the long ratios in the old uk box.
even slightly closer should be better.

Your engine block wont be tapped to take a bolt, as originally its a 4 bolt fixing to box, the P1 box is 8 bolt of which 2 are used to mount the starter and go thru to the engine block.

If you look at your original box, one hole is tapped the other is clearance as the bolt goes to the block. On a P1 both are clearance.

The P1 box has a final drive ratio of 4.444 and this give 21 mph per 1000rpm

It should be less top end as you have shorter 4th, 5th and FD - but don't worry about that.

It WILL give you significantly better accleration through all gears - to a very noticable degree! It will more than meet your brief - just ask mit...

Its a straight fit no probs, but sort the starter issue first as its a pig when fitted, but possible. I know cos i never spotted the starter prob.LOL
