If it has not been done or you have no paper work to prove that it has ever been done before, I would change it due to the age to be on the safe side. UK cars say 48 mths or 60,000 miles, I could not imagine that imports would be that different.

Like Tezza said, if you don't know when it was last done, get it changed. It was the first thing I did on my 93 WRX coz I didn't fancy shelling out for a new engine 
I would imagine they need changing at the same period as uk ones
