Default 02 coil packs. How do they work?

On my 99 classic, I had a module that sat on the inlet manifold but on my 51 plate bugeye, I have the 4 individual coil packs.

I am unsure how many wires there are going to the coil pack but is one of them an HT wire of some sort?

I'm trying to wire in a remote start and need to find the HT supply.

I think individual on-plug coilpacks get their HT voltage from a module called the 'Ignition Amplifier'... or 'Ignitor' as it's commonly referred to.

Not really sure - someone else will be able to clear this up.

Which alarm is it mate, just fitted a Falcon Evo 4 with remote start and asked the same question but had no answers so took an alternative route and all works fine

Dont think it has a name!! Its a sh@tter from Ebay. The kids got me it for Christmas.
Wasnt going to bother fitting it but they keep asking me why its still in its box and I must not like it if I dont use it. Major guilt trip.

The only function I want to install is the remote start as my commute is around 3mins to work and back, it takes longer to scrape and de-mist the windows so I figure I could start the car from bed and 10mins later, car will be warmed up and de-misted.

The instructions say I need to wrap a certian wire around the HT lead???

How did you wire yours up mate??

After connecting up to the ignition which i assume you have already done?? It was asking/telling me to connect to the -neg side of the coil, hence had the same problem, what f'ing coil Ended up going to the battery light on the dash, the side that is NOT ignition +pos. It starts on the button every time but am f'd if i know why/how coz i'm poo at electrics. Would be nice to see your wiring diagam

Edit. will taking it tto the tacho feed do the job

What do you mean by "the side that is NOT ignition +pos"?

Did you just splice the wire supposed to go to the coil, to the battery light in the dash?

Do you think this wire is just a signal wire of some sort that just requires power as a conformation the ignition is on?

Very hard to say mate without the installation/wiring diagram, just had a look at a few random remote start wiring diagams and they ask for a tach/rev counter feed which you would get from the coil

Yes i think that is the purpose. So connecting to the -neg ign side of the battery light (this becomes +pos when the engine is running ie alt charging) and tells the system the engine is running. Did my head in for 3 days

I'll try and scan the diagram and post it up.

Where would I get the tacho feed from?? Obviously the rev counter, but is there anywhere in the engine bay I could take it from?

Nice one, should help I've only got the pin outs for my classic but was advised it's not a good wire to tap into as it may effect the actual rev counter display (resistance issues)

Have you tried just winding it around one of the coil pack leads? Just a thorght

I thought about that but the HT lead sends a signal to all 4 plug leads at once whereas the plug leads only send a spark to the plugs once every 4 times therefore I'd only be getting a signal 1 in 4 times

I will try it though..........
Another thought was the alternator sensing wire.....

Yeah i know what your saying, but tickover is about 900rpm which i think is still 15 pulses per second, that should be enough to tell the unit the engine is running
Alt wire, only concern with going to the alt or as i suggested the battery light is what voltage is the unit expecting?? Wouldn't want to blow it, prob more to do with the current rather that voltage!!
Keep me updated, interesting little point your offspring have brought up
