Default cleaning the sump after bearing failure

I will be replacing my sump on my 93 wrx this weekend.
The new sump came from a car with bearing failure. it was a terrible mess.
I have spent hours tonight scrubing it with boiling water and rags. I have even had cotton buds in there! I keep finding gold flakes no matter how muh i clean it!.... and they arnt frosties
Am I going over the top here or does the sump really need to be spotless?
How do the engine builders like api and such clean the sumps? Surely they dont have hours to spare like I have?
Im guessing the oil filter will clean out any other tiny bits that I have missed?

Can anyone advise what how they cleaned theirs before rebuilding and to what extent.
I think I have got 98% of it out now but there are so many little cracks and crevises that could have gold flakes hiding in them.

Its not hard, water soluble degreaser, paint brush the worst off leave to soak for a while then jet wash out.
It wont even take an hour to be clean as a whistle.

this one was auwful. and you have to get right in under neath the bottom baffles to get at it all. i think its nearly there now. might get the jet wash on it and then put it in the airing cuboard to dry. my uderstanding is that it really does have to be spotless otherwise BANG.

Wynn's Carb Cleaner will get that cleaned out in no time. Then jetwash it to be sure.

Ours go in a big rotating wash plant at 60c that tends to get them good and clean. Then we hand finish them with a hot organic partswasher and an air line.

It takes time, but must be perfect. The filter should collect particles, BUT the oil sloshes around in the sump and gets up into the lower portion of the bores and if there are any particles left it can scour the lower side skirts of the pistons. That is sump oil and is obviously full of all sorts of crap, long before it ever gets anywhere near the filter.

We fill 'new' engines with oil on the test rig here and do all of our tests. Then that oil stays in for the road test, which can be anywhere between 30 and 50 miles.

Once that test is Ok, we drop the oil out and fit a new filter and fresh oil. Long before you ever see your car.

Best I can offer.
