Default Remap & Exhaust System

I'm looking at possibly getting my 2001 WRX bugeye with 70,000 miles remapped to release some more performance, my car is standard with no engine modifcations.

I understand remaps vary from £600-£700 but I also hate the standard exhaust system, it doesnt look right nor sound right. However, I really don't want a loud system, ideally I would like something that sounds like the STI does out of factory but maybe willing to go a tad louder without any drone. Really looking to get the classic burble sound that I love.

I understand if i go for a cat back system no real power will be gained although noise will, and to get the most I need to get a full system. I wish to stay legal so would possibly have to stay with a Sports CAT.

Can anyone offer advice on both remaps and exhausts I.E what companies/makes

I live in Suffolk and i think the nearest person is Clive Atthowe Tuning in Norfolk. He has recommended a Group N system or a milltek 'resonated system' at a cost of over £1000

I have had milltek systems before and they are nice and quiet but wondering what other options are available being a newbie

How much power would the ninja sports cat downpipe give then? I have just seen a package on power engineering's site using one of their exhaust systems

up to around 20 bhp but maybe a few more with the mid section and backbox, pls note if u get a downpipe without a cat in it,u will have to put the standard cat downpipe back in every mot time.thats why i went for the ninja cause it gives almost the same power as a decat but saves all the messin about.

Also worth looking for a second hand prodrive system with the sports cat, the prodrive backbox is a little louder, better looking than standard but not too loud. I've heard it's a little more restrictive than the Ninja one, but you'd probably be talking 5bhp-ish difference (guess).

With a panel filter and remap from one of the decent guys mentioned on here, you should be looking at 260-270bhp. It's worth travelling to get it done somewhere decent, who specialises in Subarus.

Well I had a look on scoobyworld and the racebox back box seems perfect in terms of sound then obviously the ninja sport cat down pipe but being a novice what else would I need bearing in mind I do have a standard system at moment?

Unless anyone has any more advice on back boxes? I like the look of the jap style exhausts but they seem to be much more noisier

get yourself the ninja sports cat, then a decat mid section, the back boxes r up 2 u,the more round and slim the box is{not the tail pipe}the louder it will be,the bigger and more oval the box is the quiter it will be.
