Default Classic 4 pots on Bugeye. No braking!!

Hi,

I have a friend who has a bugeye he wants to rally on gravel. The stock Brembos do not clear the 15 inch gravel rims so he got a set of calipers (4 pot front, 2 port back) from a GC8, however when they are installed there is absolutely no braking whatsoever and the pedal sinks to the floor. They have been bled extensively but the problem persists. When the Brembos are put back on, everything is fine.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

No signs of leaks I take it?
Are the pistons free on the 4 pots?

Did he fit them the correct way up? ie bleed nipple to the top.

As they fit either way...as I found out.

No leaks, pistons are free to move. And I've just called him, they are fitted the right way.

Just called his mechanic, he says the bleed nipples are at the bottom. So I've asked him to turn them around so that they are at the top. I guess I'll have an update within an hour.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Turning the calipers so that the bleed nipples were at the top worked. Now the car is braking perfectly.

Thanks for the help.

I'd like to know, what's the explanation behind the brakes not working when the bleed nipples are at the bottom?

Air gets trapped at the bottom (which if fitted wrong is at the top and it can't get out). I made the same mistake a few years ago went through 4 pints of fluid trying to sort.
