Default Damaged hub help?

I needed to replace the nsf wheel bearing so had the hub off, took it to a garage i have used before to get the new bearing put in.
Picked it up and they said the old bearing knackered the hub when it came out, seems to have destroyed the outer lip where the recess is, he said it was the really stuck in there, was up to 30ton before it moved!

Couple of questions:
From which side does the bearing need to be pressed out from?
Which side does the circlip fit(outside or inside)?

I was reading this guide: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/whe...+wheel+bearing

and it shows pressing the bearing out from the outside, i asked the guy whio did it and he said he pressed it out from the inside, i mentioned that to him and he said 'so you think you know better then'. so wasnt really impressed with his attitude either.

Any feedback from anyone who has done wheel bearings or does it on a regular basis would be very appreciated.
car is an 05 wrx btw with 35k on it.

adehook, thats what im thinking, if the circlip is on the inside there must be a lip on the outside to stop the bearing falling out the outside, if there is no lip on one side then why does the kit only come with one circlip?

just need to know for sure this is what he has done, will go back to him then to cough up for the new hub.

hi m8 i just done a new rear hub today the car had hit a kerb in the icy conditions . the snap ring comes out the front of the hub which is behind the flange that has the wheel studs ,this means the bearing has to come out the front of the hub then the bearing is pushed in to its seat then the snap ring locates into its seat to stop the new bearing moving ,this is the rear hub so check what side the snap ring is in with the groove machined into the hub .the bearing should be pushed out this side .if the machined step has been damaged ,it means that the bearing has been forced out the hub the wrong way .hub now fooked bud . cheers geo

i done one on my 03,
big nut off hub
2 bolts on shocker
abs/bottom ball joint/steering arm
lift the hub off
put hub in the vice take clip and seal out the rear
got socket on the centre of the hub(from the rear) 5-6 strikes with hammer and centre came out leaving the outer race still in the hub.
tapped this out and used the outter race to tap the new bearing in

thanks maydew, so the circlip is definately at the back, but which way did you press the old bearing out, through the front or the back?

If there is only one circlip, then the bearing would be pressed out through where the circlip sits.

yeah thats my thinking aswell, here are a couple of pics, see what you make of them,(crappy camera phone wont give tidy pic)

Thats looking from the front, i take it the groove at the back is for the circlip then.
if someone can confirm that he pressed it out the wrong way and buggered the hub im gonna be trying to claim for my new hub from the garage.
