Advice for engine rebuild
I've got a sti 96/97 v4 engine code: ej20kdwbpr, which ive just stripped down to find the big end had gone as well as 2 pistons with the bores scored. So ive bin weighing up the costs and possiblities to what would be the best route of action, i can either rebore and machine the crank (which seems to have minor damage) and put a new set of pistons (maybe uprated pistons) and big end shells in then rebuild the whole engine with new gaskets and timing belt/tensioners throughout and know its not going to be letting me down anytime soon or buy the bottom end complete from a reliable engine specialists which im struggling to find with my engine type, im working on a tight budget and trying to do the most cost effective job without sacrificing the well being of knowing its been done properly.
Im not too bothered about increasing power because of my budget but if it works out to be cost effective im open to ideas. Im open to any sugestions for good engine specialist because ive struggled as yet to find many bottom ends complete for the right money ive got £1600 to spend including buying all gaskets timing belt, tensioner, clutch, gear oil, engine oil, oil filter.
Would be extremely greatful for any feedback to help me out

There is no equivalent to a STi Vers 4 block assembly in the UK Subaru parts price list. Vers 5 sure, because of the P1 but they are not available any more as far as l know and they used to be over 1300 quid when they were available.
Call me SAM and l'll work something out for you. l think you'll find that a number of people on here will vouch the work at APi.

DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT BUY FROM SMR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are imported engines, steam cleaned and sprayed silver, they claim to do all sorts of work to them, the parts alone would cost twice what they sell them for. Ive just sold a re-built engine to a guy who bought one, it lasted 2 weeks and can't get hold of them for re-fund!!, They ship them in black crates with SMR on the side. Complete rip off.

The previous poster said it for me. There is a thread already running on Scoobynet about these people. they do not behave correctly [ I'm being polite ] and seem to rebuild their engines with a paintbrush.
Go looking on here for other opinions - but buying from them would be a bad idea.

SC are a quality outfit (based on lots of feedback on here)
My vote goes to APi though on the basis of my experience with them
Good clutch for that level: Exedy organic.
