Angry 1 Nut Away From Full Decat

Argh. I've undone every nut on the turbo flange, they all came off real easy except the most inacessible one! It is underneath and nearest to the inner wing. The nut is getting shagged now from previous attempts. The next step is to heat it up (somehow) but failing that I cant even see how I can grind it off 'cos the bloody grinder won't fit in!

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, jonny

No, can barely get my hand in. The master cylinder and clutch fluid reserve are in the way from above and from below the steering uj and driveshaft are in the way.

i could get on mine with a small extension bar and decent six sided socket.

can you not get a spanner onto it? makeshift a extension bar and beat it to crack it?

pisses you off doesnt it... i had similar issues with the upipe nut right on back of turbo.

got a decent 6 sided socket on there in the end and it worked.

Ar the infamous last nut Did mine by putting the socket on the extension bar then a couple of firm taps to drive the socket over the nut, as said above make sure its a decent socket, go buy a new one if nessisary (spelling)

Just on the case of trying to find a six sided socket. Tried all types of spanner/bar/lever combinations lol. I actually snapped a jaw off a spanner last night on the b*stard. Drop forged, yeah right! Thanks lads I'll let you know how I get on.

I had to use a small hand held dremel with the flexy extendable shaft with a cutting disc on , took ages to remove , the nut was seized solid , slowly cut either side of nut and then chiselled off , cleaned stud thread up with a dia , and fitted new nut .
good luck

Mark

sometimes it also helps by doing some of the others back up, so to take some of the pressure out of that one, i think i had the sale prob with mine, lots and lots of wd40, left to soak in, good 6 sided socket on hard, and cracked it open.

hope you get it sorted

If you can hire a small set of gas bottles, very carefully heat the nut up but not the thread and then top the nut off. Best of luck...its funny how the hardest nut is always the one that gives the most grief.

I don't know what they're called, but some impact sockets also drive the nut in the center of the flat pieces, not the corners. E.g. the halfords one

I got a set and used it with a long extension bar to get to the *******ly invisible turbo nuts and they came off with that. If you use a double hex socket on a turbo nut it's definitely rounding off, but with the six sided "side drive" (for lack of the proper word), I could re-use all my turbo nuts

I would try soaking it with "Plus Gas" the stuff smells really bad but I havent found a single nut or bolt this stuff didnt free up. great stuff!!

Spray it on leave for half an hour and try again. if it doesnt free up first time repeat.

Not sure where to get it from tho, I borrowed a can from work. maybe someware like cromwells chemicals or RS/Farnell.

Worth having a can in your tool box.

Irwin grip sockets are what you need for a rounded nut

Douse well in Plusgas the night before.

I always undo that nut using a wobbly head 3/8" drive and a 6" extension bar.

All can be done with a socket, as staed previously you must use a 6 sided socket.

If it the one i think you mean its easiest from under the car with 2 extensions and a U/J.

good luck

As all stated above... do up all other bolts to take strain off it, get a decent 6 sided socket uv joint and a 6" extension. Working from under the car you should get it off. Might even need to put a cheater bar on the ratchet to crack it first.

Obviously not been there I dont know the full situation.

I work on 80`s printing presses. With them been old I come across this problem alot.

3 things I would use....Mole grips (thats if they will fit) spray alot of wd40 on the bolt and dont lose your temper.

I bought a 1/4" drive socket set just for that 1 'kin nut cos it went straight on when nowt else would get in the space. Was 6 sided by the way and went up to 14mm as a lot don't. Try Halfords.

If its got a bellmouth then yes. The std downpipe can be undone from the top, but the heat shield has to be tackled from underneath (if still on), so you may as well undo the nut as well while under there.

Right, I got the ****.

I had to spend £9.99 on a 3/8 socket set from halfords though, it was the only 14mm six sider in the shop.

Got it from above while the car was still hot and it came off pretty easy, I even saved the nut. Thanks for the advice lads,

Cheers, jonny
