Default PLEASE HELP BRING MY SCOOBY BACK FROM THE DEAD

Twas the night before new years eve, i was coming home along the motorway, i decided to put my foot down for a few seconds, i lifted and had a horrible rattle coming from the engine, pulled over and it conked out. I've since had it confirmed that its big end bearing failure.....now, i've been without the car for a month and cant believe how much i miss it! I keep seeing ppl driving round in theirs... i need to get her back on the road, a month without a subaru is far too long! but....i cant be spending more than a grand (rebuild 2500 out of the question, dont earn enough!) friend of a friend should be able to put an engine in for cheap rates.

Which of the following would be the best option? It is a Ver3 1997 WRX

1. Replace block - drop my heads and ancillaries on top.
-can i use any ej20 block, I would like bhp to remain at 280?
-is this quite a labour intensive job?
-would i need to replace other engine parts?

2.replace with block and heads - put my ancilaries on.
-again, which ej20 blocks would be compatible with my car, ancilaries?

3. replace with complete like for like lump (block, heads, ancilaries)
-Now to me, this looks like the easiest solution, less labour intensive?
which complete lumps can i put into my WRX97?
-Are there any replacement parts i would need to factor in on this just to be safe? e.g cambelt, oil pump?

I appreciate i have asked alot of questions but i'm just really lost on what to do, I'm thinking option 3 is the most cost effective option? especially if i can find a version 3?

Thanks

i think realisticly yes, you might scrap some sort of engine together, but it will prb go bang 3 months down the line, personaly i'd just get saving.

proper rebuilds tend to start at £2500

It might be worth contacting David @ API Engines as they normally have engines to suit all budgets.

same situation i had also and unexpected cost for me as well. my car is still out in the garade but i just decided to drop in a sti v8 motor in the classic body instead which when compare to a rebuild is more realistic even though its a bit more expensive but i get better gearbox n brakes at the same time

A full PROPER rebuild is £2500.00

But, we also do cost effective repairs including fitting, starting from £1000 up depending upon damage. If an engine only is brought along, then the price is even lower.

Because of all the financial doom out there most people are working to a very tight budget To help out we will always do just a repair to the actual fault.

My engineers are highly skilled and can decide how much or little an engine needs doing to get it going economically.

Give me a call and l'll work something out for you.
