No it is 100% a rattle, can hear it when car is cold but not at all really when car has warmed up.

Thumbs up

To revisit my earlier quote - sound like a skeleton wanking in a biscuit barrel when cold, go quiet when oil (not water) gets to 80C

Very reputable engine builder

Same rattle here, and yes I've been told it is normal (assuming your oil level is right! )

Yes they do, My mate had his engine rebuild by Chy at pennine Subaru and it rattled it's t!ts off, he took it back and was told it's fine, but he did not like the idea of trying to sell it with the rattle so Chy rebuild it with different pistons - for free! now thats service.

LMFAO!!!

Mine was built with CP pistons and 1 1/2 thou clearance. Sounds like a friggin' Massey Ferguson when cold but nice and quiet once up to temp.

Also, my tailpipe is a bit sootier than it used to be.....oooooh errrrr!

Now that's just plain silly. There's no bone in it. so a skeleton won't have one! Please don't tell me you're a doctor!

They do rattle and different brands will rattle more or less. It's to do with the amounts of the different metals in the alloy of the piston, which changes the thermal expansion rate. And that in general a forged piston will expand more than a cast one, so it must have more clearance to start with.
