I paid £120 for mine, I wouldnt go much higher than £150 unless its a reconditioned one, they are mega expensive to buy new for some reason.

Graham Goode sells them at a higher price than the VF34.

They do have a fast spool, mine ran fine at 1.2bar then I got clever and tried 1.4 which it didn't like

Cost? New? 2nd hand?

IHI VF29 (425cfm at 18psi, 250-325whp, Bolt-On)
This is the standard equipment turbocharger on the JDM V6 Subaru Impreza WRX STi. The VF29 is nearly identical to the VF24, with the same compressor and exhaust housings. However, the compressor wheel in the VF29 has been changed slightly. The changes made to the compressor wheel in this model are generally viewed as improvements, and as such, this unit is typically chosen over the VF24. Has a different location for the pressure hose on the wastegate actuator.
Expect to achieve full boost with the proper mods and a quality tune between 2900-3300rpms. 2002-2005 WRX owners will need fuel upgrades for this turbocharger and proper engine management is highly recommended for all vehicles.

If it's good for 325 wheel horsepower as stated, then that's about 390 at the fly! Surely that's not right! ... This is a medium sized turbo fitted to the MY99/00 JDM WRX!

I'm running 350bhp on a TD05 big 16g, Personally I would stick with that over the VF29 mate.

No. TD05H 16G is good for about 340-350bhp if pushed. Plus they are much tougher than VFs... they can be run without DVs for example.

If you are looking to upgrade, then there are proper upgrade options like the 18G and 20G version of the TD05... or even the much championed MD321H!
