Car won't turn on... getting worse!
Hi there, posting on behalf of my bro who bought a Scoob last year.
The car hasn't been turning on. I've jump started it for him on several occasions and it works fine there after, maybe for only 5 mins, maybe 30 mins, maybe a whole day, but never more.
He reckoned alternator, I thought could just be the battery? But he found a tip through Google telling him to hold in the on position for five seconds or something... and it worked! For about a week. Now unfortunately, back to square one. I'm thinking probably not battery now as why would holdin it for five seconds make a difference?
Hes now got the idea of a cam sensor from somewhere, I personally don't know what this is... could it be this? As seems a cheap part to replace.
I had a similar problem to my old CRX where it was just something that needed to re-soldered as over the years the connection came loose, anything along those lines ring a bell?
Hopefully it's something simple as he's loosing faith in the car but I want him to keep it as I love it!
Cheers in advance for any help...

If it jump starts ok then i doubt its a sensor (someone correct me if im wrong) The scoobs are fitted with a 'smart' alternator and donot charge unless there is a drain, it is recommended that you run with side lights on to maintain full charge. Try putting the battery on charge overnight, get it running and put a tester on the battery to check the alternator output.

First thing to check is that its charging. Easily tested with a multi-metre on the battery while the engine is running. should be between 13.5 and 14.5volts. From what you say sounds like battery though as once its been jumped and run for 5 mins it will start. This would suggest powers being put into the battery when its running.

Hi thanks for your replies... he talked to someone from a garage today and they said it's most likely starter motor/ignition? They said bring in the car tomorrow but he can't because he cant start it lol.
I'll be jump starting for him next week as I'm unable to drive atm.

If it jumps its not the starter or anything else but a flat battery. All you are doing by jumping it is effectively putting another battery on it. Unless you actually jumping it correctly(which is unusual) and putting the earth side on the engine block then its may be an earth lead problem
