Whats Happening to My Turbo?
#1
Alright, this is really annoying. Just had an 82500 service, now I am having Turbo probs.
If the turbo kicks in in 1st, I have had it...A loud bang from the back and no power.
Sometimes in 2nd through 4th I get turbo stutter, like the turbo can't decide whether to boost or not.
5th is usually ok, but I have had the odd stutter.
Anyone got any ideas on this.

Hi Steve,
Had similar problem with mine after recent service, it only occured however when really slamming the accelerator pedal down it was OK if accelerating 'steadily' i.e feeding pedal to floor
Turned out to be as Rich states, oil in solenoid.
Got it back into dealer and they cleaned out the boost solenoid valve??? I dunno.....but back to good in 20mins

Thanks for the ideas guys, It's going back to the garage on Monday to check this out.
It doesn't seem to be limited to slamming my foot down, it is more apparent then though.
I will have to check the oil level later on, just to rule that out. I doubt the garage cleaned anything around the turbo, they say all the did is change the oil and filter. Sounds like a rip-off to me, cost me £120.

I had a similar problem with my MY98UK turbo at about the 80,000 mark ... I was told it was the turbo acuator solenoid! (I think) Was full of carbon as the engine was running on ordinary unleaded ... which was causing it to run rich.
They took it off soaked it in brake/clutch cleaner and its been fine ever since... needless to say I switched to super UL then onto Optimax.
I believe the car had done it's first 80,000 miles on nothing but ordinary UL fuel.
Hope this helps!

£120 for an oil change, I've never paid more than £80 for an oil change service. Think they also check around the car, at the interim service.

Take it really easy till you have it checked .....the overboost could be damaging and resist the temptation to floor it in the hope it will clear.... better still follow a recent thread on boost solenoid cleaning...there have been a few.
