Default The Damage done!

right guys, the bottomend is stripped. my shells are fooked, 3 sets out of 4!
1 has a piece which has shattered off, badly scored and has the eges of the shell kinked. (if that makes sense?)
The other 2 are intacted, but are a copper colour from the heat and drying out?
The rod on cylinder 1 were the ****ed shell was from needs replacing.
The oil pump had some play, and also i found that 4 out of the 5 screws on the bk were loose? 2 of which were wound right out?

well ive got the money for new parts so will be on wit it this weekend, think ive been quite lucky really as i would say "it wouldnt have been long before the rod let go and would have come thro the block.
all in all im chuffed and cant wait to get it bk together.

just thought id share my findings with you guys
Any advice guys as to what to be careful with when building bk up? whats this about some clearance in the bottomend has toi be right?

thankyou. wayne

There will be metal filings everywhere, make sure you clean all parts of the block, oilways, galleries and pipework thoroughly.

Suggest you replace the oil cooler and oil pump as a MINIMUM.

Download yourself a workshop manual - it will have all the data you need to do the build correctly.

New oil pump, big ends, modline oil cooler, oil filter and crank sounds like your bare minimun part list to rebuild that. The you need to get the clearance between the inside of the big end bearing and the crank right. if you need any help msn, pm or post in here.

Just price up all the parts like cranks, rods, bearings and shizzle and you may well find it's a lot easier to buy a ready built bottom end from Subaru. it's about 1400 quid for the sti one..

RCM pumps are modified, so they will not stick. Good pumps, i fitted one to my build. You could do it a lot cheaper than that. will discuss on msn
