Hello...

Just wondering if anyone can help this query..

I have a very small Power steering leak which isnt really worth getting fixed replace!!! As I can imagine it could be well pricey!!
I heard that there is an additive that can be added to the power steering fluid to help stop leak?
Could anyone tell me if this is the case- if they have heard of it and if so where I could get some

Regards

Kev

Where exactly is the leak coming from? I say this because if it around the resevoir then its known for them to 'sweat' after a spirited drive. If its coming from the seals by the rack it may be an MOT failure!

I have a WRX
It is a common problem especialy on earlier cars.
I have never heard of an additive.
It usualy is the resevoir leaking,as it is of poor design.
Dave West replaced mine recently. Legacy resevoirs fit and are of a better design. I think resevoirs fitted to newer scoobs are also of a better design. The part costs about £90 ish I think.
Replacement with a better resevoir is the only thing that seems to have cured this pain in the **** problem for me

Cheers
Steve

I've got the same symptoms, although not 100% sure where it's leaking from, it's in the garage now as I type this so I'll let you know what happened.

I used a litre of Power Steering fluid in the last week, after a spirited drive the level would drop by 40% - 50%. Looked around the reservoir but no obvious signs, I think it's one of the pipes on the Rack as I noticed a weep thee last year when underneath.

Unhappy

Well just got back from the garage and the verdict is that it looks like the Power Steering pump is on the way out, it's noisy under light load. Usually you'd have to turn the steering full lock to hear the pump working but I can hear mine when moving the wheel at low speed. They're gonna price up a reconditioned pump for me and get back to me, it may even be the pressure release mechanism inside I've also been told as it seems to leak more under pressure after a thrash across country. This is causing Power Steering fluid to leak on the Cat Shield and causing a bit of smoke.. Urgh !!!
