Default uk classic wont start

parked up earlier to grab a bite to eat, came back to the car and fired it up, it was running pretty rough on idle and wouldnt rev up, eventually it cut out and will now not fire at all, its like its ran out of fuel even tho theres 1/2 tank+ in there, what are the things i should be checking? it was running 100% as normal up untill parking up for 10mins

thanks

i took the cover off the pump and switched the ign on, didnt hear it prime, saying that though i have never really heard it prime previously,
was suspecting the pump or relay, il test the voltage when i get it towed home later on

Is there a fuse for the fuel pump? If there is, could it be that that's blown?

Post classic not starting

Sean, there is definately a fuse for the feul pump. its under the bonnet, right hand side above the battery. there will be 2 green fuses together, will be one of those, one is central locking. good luck.

I'd go with a dodgy fuel pump relay. Usually the jerk of the just start fires it back into action. If it does it again, give it a whack and try and start it up again.
My old Impreza used to do this and if I opened the drivers door and gave it a good slam, the car would start

It did look a bit funny though, this big shinny Subaru not starting, then the driver opens the door and slams it, starts the car and drives away.........

been ok over the weekend but the problem returned again tonight, same symptoms, drove ok all night, parked up for ten mins, went to start and no fuel pump again, had a mess around with the relay but no joy, went to take the fuel pump cover plate off, just as i was about to remove the last screw hey presto, fuel pump fired into life!
really bugging me now, as as soon as i start to investigate the cause it changes its mind and wants to bloody run,
im think duff pump or iffy relay,
any more opinions on the possible cause?
thanks
Sean

Have you tried the connector block under the back seat, this can sometimes cause a intermittent fault.

right, its upto its old tricks AGAIN! this time i quickly grabbed my multimeter and tested the multiplug on the pump, with ign on there is a constant 4-5v, when you first switch ign on there is a 12v for 4-5 secs, take it this is to prime the pump?
