Default emissions laws ( MOT testers??) anyone :)

who knows the exact rules on emissions for imports.

dont want hear say, lol, no offences, but mate is having big trouble with his.

car is 95, registered november but built in july 95, according to his V5 logbook.

all i can find on vosa is if car is pre 31st july 95, u can have non cat test

after 1st aug to 31st aug 2002 needs full cat test

only time otheriwse its not a cat test is if car is reg pre 31st july 95 and car info isnt in the analyser database or in service emissions book.

but i checked the analyser in work, and its has subaru, impreza 2.0 turbo. so its in the analyser database.

and as his car is reg in november 95 he has missed the non cat route emission test.

any1 shed anymore light.

any mot testers??

Default cat test

hi from 1992 all car have a cat test but registered after 2002 the limits changed and became lower.In a test in the car is a import and has no details on the computer then the limits are taking from a standard car registered from 1992 too 2002 which the co level is too be under 0.3.But any car after 1992 will get a cat test.

The above is true for EU cars, but as per the opening post imports from outside the EU don't need a car test if manufactured before July 1995.

However hardly any MOT tester knows this

I'm sure its date of manufacture for the emissions, its the date of registration that is used for calculating the tax band. However I know this because I've been through the mill with this for years now with all my cars, basically i've given up trying to get it through on the non cat test - depending on circumstance I've ether fitted a cat for the MOT or found a friendly tester, it was far easier TBH

The date of manufacture should be the 'declared manufactured date' on the V5 - not the date of first registration. Because it's an import - declared manufactured in July '95 - it should have been registered on an 'M' plate, which would put it in the pre-August 95 emissions.

An import won't be on the VOSA database, so the car should only need to pass the rather lax 3.5% CO (which my MY93 passed easily today with no cat and no lambda!).

its not the date of manufacture its the date of registration so a car registered in nov 95 will need the full test

The guy at Vosa said you need to get a letter off Subaru stating it was built before july 31 so that your car was not built to meet uk emission laws then give it to the mot tester.

Any ideas?

Isn't that what the V5 is for?! Surely the numberplate prefix letter should be a giveaway?

Yup agree here, I have the MOT Manual in front of me and it states:

"Was the vehicle first used between 1st August 1995 and 31st August 2002 Yes/No"

If Yes - "Can you find an exact match in the analyser database or in the Service Emmisions book? Yes/No"

If Yes - "Carry out CAT test using vehicle specific limits"

If No - "Carry out a CAT test using default limits"

Fast Idle : (2500 to 3000 rpm)
CO <= 0.3%
HC <= 200ppm
Lambda 0.97 to 1.03

Idle: (450 to 1500 rpm)
CO <=0.5%

Ok, I was assuming the car was first registered / used abroad. If it was imported new, then I guess that would be different!
